This ammonia is distilled and captured in a receiving solution, commonly boric acid, and then quantified through titration with a standard acid. Modern Kjeldahl apparatuses may include digital temperature controls, automated distillation, and enhanced safety features, which minimize human error and improve efficiency. Despite the emergence of alternative methods such as Dumas combustion and near-infrared spectroscopy, the Kjeldahl method is still widely favored for its reproducibility and applicability across diverse sample types. Researchers and quality control laboratories rely on this apparatus for food labeling, nutritional studies, environmental analysis, and industrial quality assurance. Proper maintenance, calibration, and operator training are crucial to ensure the apparatus delivers consistent and precise results.
